Mike helped Jane keep her clothes and hair out of the way

"Jane? Are you okay?" He led her away from the mess on the ground and hunted through his pockets. A packet of tissues. Perfect. Mike wiped the vomit from around Jane's mouth, and used another tissue to wipe the tears from her eyes.

"What's wrong with you, Jane? What's going on?" The bedraggled woman was silent for a moment before raising her head and looking straight into Mike's eyes. He mouth formed two words.

"Help me."

Then her head dropped once more and she fell forward into Mike's arms.

What to do now? Up to now he'd always had someone else around. Aerosmith, Agent Hetfield, Agent Tex, Dr Zimmer. But now it was just him and Jane. This wasn't how it was supposed to work. Jane was the heroine, not him. He was meant to be a sidekick. It was Jane who could do all the fancy shooting, Jane with all the gadgetry and bombs and stuff, Jane who knew how to get out of a collapsing building with only seconds on the clock. But there was something wrong with Jane, something very wrong, and now he, Mike, was going to have to be the hero.

Bugger, he thought to himself, as he remembered he was supposed to be turning Jane in to the secret service. Well, there was his first move sorted. Get out of Milton Keynes. Now there was an idea with merit.

"Help me, Jane. Is there anywhere we can go? Anywhere safe?" Jane muttered a single word in reply.

"Cambridge."

Mike got Jane arranged with an arm over his shoulder, and together they made slow progress towards Milton Keynes station. A quick investigation revealed that in order to get to Cambridge by train they would first have to go to London. They headed for the coach stop instead.

The coach journey passed quickly. They had to get out at Bedford so Jane could be sick again, and Mike had trouble convincing the driver to wait for them, but otherwise the time was uneventful. Jane went to sleep on Mike's shoulder for a while after they left Bedford, and didn't wake up until the coach drew in at Cambridge.

"Where now, Jane?"

Jane seemed a little better after her sleep, and was able to walk unassisted. Mike followed her down a series of narrow roads until they reached an entirely unconspicuous house. She waved a hand at the door, then collapsed again. Mike caught Jane and carried her through the door, which had swung open. It closed behind them with a very final sounding click.

Inside the house looked very interesting. All manner of strange objects hung on the walls. Mike carried Jane upstairs and put her into a bed, then explored the house. In the kitchen he found a large number of tins of food, plus an assortment of dehydrated products. He thought perhaps Jane should have something to eat. Of course she might have trouble keeping stuff down. Some searching produced a bottle of lucozade, which he took up to her. Jane was sitting up in bed, but when he appeared in the doorway she scrabbled away from him, trying to hide under the duvet.

"No! You're with him! I can't trust you!"

Mike decided not to push things, and left the lucozade by the door.

Back downstairs he found a tin of curry, a bowl and a microwave. Combining the three produced something resembling a meal, so he ate it. It seemed useless to speak to Jane again until she'd calmed down - he could still hear strange noises from upstairs - so he looked around the house again. He was quite surprised to discover...
